Paris was a complete whirlwind. Our flight from Nice left on Thursday at 6:15 am, so we arrived in Paris before 8. We headed straight to our hostel by assorted trains and metros, only getting extremely confused by the public transportation system once along the way. When we finally made it to the hostel and dropped our bags, we were right in time for breakfast which is when we met up with one of my other roommates Lauren. She'd been in Brussels and Amsterdam with another friend before getting to Paris a few days before we did.
You might be wondering what the first thing I did in Paris was. Well, I went to a cemetery. Bodes well for the rest of the visit, doesn't it? After breakfast, Lauren, Kylee and I went to Pere Lachaise Cemetery to pay our respects to Chopin, Van Morrison, and Oscar Wilde. Paris repaid us by raining.
Next, we went over to the Latin Quarter to track down some lunch and Miranda met us there after finishing a pesky scholarship application. We ate at an adorable sidewalk cafe where one of the waiters seemed to be very amused by our attempts at French but indulged us nevertheless.
I split off from the group after lunch and walked over to the Musee d'Orsay. Not only was the art amazing, but part of Orson Welles' film of The Trial was filmed there, so it was a must see if only for that reason (Orsay, Orson? Coincidence? I think not). After the museum I walked around near the Louvre and the Jardin des Tuileries across the Seine from Orsay. Both Miranda and Kylee were meeting up with friends of theirs in Paris, so that night Lauren and I found a wine bar back in the Latin Quarter and probably annoyed some Parisians with our loud Americanness. Oh well, we had a good time.
Stay tuned for Day 2!

The tradition is to leave him a kiss
